I. Introduction

SDL Trados Studio 2009 is a translation environment tool (TEnT), i.e., a piece of software containing a number of translation tools in one integrated package. Trados Studio can primarily help a translator to manage translation projects and to save time and effort by reusing previously translated material in a new text. Trados Studio works in connection with MS Office, SDL MultiTerm and many other applications. In Trados Studio, a user opens a document to be translated, and the program searches for translation units (TUs) in the translation memories (TMs) (databases of aligned text segments) and in MultiTerm termbases, so that it can suggest possible translations of segments and equivalents of terms. To learn more about SDL Trados Studio and other SDL products, visit their website at www.translationzone.com.

Please note that despite a number of differences between the 2009 and 2011 versions of the program (mostly for advanced features), this tutorial may be used by users of both versions.
